The Council is hearing Presidential References against Justice Qazi Faez Isa of the apex court and Justice KK Agha of Sindh High Court for allegedly not declaring properties abroad and failing to mention them in their wealth statements. The SJC on August 19 had dismissed a reference against Justice Qazi Faez Isa for writing letters to President Arif Alvi for supplying a copy of the reference, filed by the federal government.
The second reference was filed by Waheed Shahzad Butt, an advocate of Lahore High Court, on 12-06-19 against Justice Qazi Faez for writing letters to the President. Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Abid Hassan Minto, a senior Supreme Court lawyer, IA Rehman, a veteran journalist and a human rights activist, and Pakistan Bar Council have filed petitions in the Supreme Court urging it to declare that present chairman and members SJC are no longer competent to hear Presidential Reference against Justice Qazi on account of the "bias" shown in the Council's order dated August 19.
It has also been prayed that the full court comprising all eligible judges of the apex court should hear the petition against the Presidential Reference.
